The pick dongles work with both the Les Paul and the WT genaricaster. For me, I scooped a WT guitar, the pick dongle, a drum set and its respective dongle for $50 on Kijiji. I live in a massive city though. For smaller towns it might be harder but keep looking. Edit: my pick dongles work like a charm on PS4.
It does look kinda awkward lol For future reference, I found this comment by acai28 on the second video: Xbox 360 is the only console that supports the GHL guitar on Legacy games. On PS3 it registers as a regular PS3 controller, PS4 and Xbox One only registers the first three frets on RB4 afaik
No unfortunately your stuck with rock band or guitar hero live, both are worth a shot if you haven't tried them. But if you already have the games and instruments you might look into picking up a ps3 as you can pick them up extremely cheap now and besides guitar hero it'll help to fill in the non-backwards compatible gaps for some of the other exclusives.
I bought 2 of these to replace missing dongles for guitar hero live ps3 guitars. Unfortunately the servers are now dead for that version of the game but the replacement usb dongles work perfectly. Just plug and play straight out of the package.
The short answer is that no, the PlayStation 4 is not backward-compatible with PlayStation 3 games. Inserting a PS3 disc into the PS4 will not work. And you cannot download digital versions of PS3 games from the PlayStation Store onto your PlayStation 4.

But the last two days, whenever I try to play, strumming doesn't work. I've made sure everything's the same and all the rest of the buttons work fine but not the strum bar. I know it's not the guitar either as I use this regularly on PS4 Rock Band. For the record I am using a PS2 guitar with an adapter but it's meant specifically for PC/PS3/4 play.
If it's PS3 Les Paul and it includes usb dongle then yes. Keep in mind that Les Pauls might have connectivity issues due to old capacitors. 100% fixable but requires some soldering. As i mentioned before i'm not willing to spend 100+ euros to buy the guitar , i already have the GH Les Paul , if it works fine if not then i won't buy the game
Each PS3 guitar needs their specific dongle so only the WT guitar'll work. This is incorrect. The WT Box and GH3 Pick style dongle will work for the GH3 Les Paul or GHWT Genericaster. Both guitars are interchangeable with both dongles. As for GH5/Band Hero, only the GH5/Band Hero guitars will work with that dongle.

Will the Guitar Hero Live dongle and controller I bought for the ps3 work on the ps4 / ps5 if I buy the GHL ps4 disk? Trying to play GHL on ps5 or ps4; I have the ps4 disk / backwards compatibility. I can connect the guitar to dongle on the ps5/ps4, but literally all of the buttons do not function or do anything.

For example, any of the basic Guitar Hero 5 controllers will work with any basic Guitar Hero 5 dongle. However, if the dongle is one of the guitar pick-shaped dongles, then it is a PS3 Guitar Hero Les Paul dongle. Considering this, can you play Guitar Hero Live with a regular controller?
