jberks. The fan is controlled by an electronic regulator. The switch, whether digital or manual simply sends a small variable voltage to the regulator which then controls the fan speed. when they fail, these can make the fan do anything, including run flat out all the time or even speed up and slow down randomly.
GLK350 ignition problems. My 2012 Glk locked up completely would not start or turn over, the message on the cluster said 'remove key' and then 'reinsert key" could not get to move out of park, tried jumping the battery to no avail, it's a all wheel drive, was completely locked! It won't start intermittently, just like some members mentioned in this forum. The symptom was gone after two week's daily commuting. Two months ago, I decided to replace the rear brake pads and bleed brake fluid. Then leave one inside the car and keep the small metal manual key separate from the electronic key. In case the new key is giving you problems in a week month etc, you can open the car with the manual key, get the spare and immediately the next day go and get a new key.
Remove key from ignition. Hear ESL motor action and ESL locking tongue will extend. (Steering locked position.) Reinsert key. Hear ESL motor action and ESL locking tongue will retract. (Steering unlocked position.) Leave key in ignition. Disconnect battery noting that ESL is now in unlocked state. Leave key in ignition. Complete fastening of ESL.
